The 1-R MathCounts team members are pictured with their trophies and fourth place plaque from the Midstates competition in Kearney on Thursday, February 14. One-R School, the smallest of the 18 schools to compete, nearly earned a berth at the state competition by defeating schools such as Westridge, Grand Island Central Catholic, Aurora and McCook. All 1-R team members placed in the top two-thirds of the 126 students who participated; three team members—Melanie Griess, Nathan Niemoth, and Danielle Barker—placed in the top 15 overall. Two students—Melanie Griess and Nathan Niemoth—also earned individual berths at the state competition. Each team member was an excellent representative of our school, and we congratulate each and every one of them on their outstanding achievement.
