FBLA: State Leadership Conference
Leadership In Action
by Janet Kisner
On April 3-5, members of the Grand Island Northwest FBLA chapter went to Omaha for the State Leadership Conference. The following members attended from Northwest: Katie Behrle, Emilee Bruns, Nicole Clemens, Ashley Egbert, Logan Gregory, Amy Hostler, Janet Kisner, Dan Kistler, Kaitlin Kruse, Alex Mohr, and Ben Versaw. Chapter advisor Barb Huls and chaperone DeEtta Egbert accompanied the students.
The conference is not just about taking tests but about meeting people from all over the state. At the conference, FBLA members competed in a variety of business-related tests, ranging from basic keyboarding to advanced programming. Also there were different kinds of seminars or workshops for students to attend when they were not involved in competitive events.
At the end of the conference there was an awards program. Placement awards were given to the top eight individuals in most categories; other individuals who placed in the top 5 percent received honorable mention certificates.
Several students from the Northwest FBLA Chapter were recognized for their efforts:
- Alex Mohr (Junior): 1st in Cyber Security, 2nd in Networking Concepts, 3rd in Technology Concepts, and honorable mention in Computer Problem Solving.
- Ben Versaw (Senior): 2nd in Cyber Security, 2nd in Technology Concepts, and 3rd in Networking Concepts
- Logan Gregory (Sophomore): 3rd place in Cyber Security and honorable mention in Technology Concepts
- Emilee Bruns (Senior): 8th place in Spreadsheet Applications and honorable mention in Computer Applications.
Alex, Ben, and Logan will be attending the National FBLA Leadership Conference in Atlanta, Georgia, on June 25-29.
