The Turning of the Tassels

Goodbye Seniors

Class of 2008 Graduate

by Danielle Snyder

On May 11 at 2:00 in the afternoon the Class of 2008 graduated. The ceremony  started off with the processional played by the Northwest band. The opening statement was said by Mr. Mowinkel, congratulating the graduates and wishing the mothers a Happy Mother's Day. Then three emotional speeches were given by seniors Lauren Brown, Kelli Raile, and Kaitlyn Hulse. After the speeches the senior choir students sang for this school for the last time, singing "How Can We Say Goodbye". Shortly after Mr. Denney presented the senior class and wished them good luck.

The presentation of the diplomas was entertaining, as each student dropped a marble in a jar before getting their diplomas. After the presentation of the diplomas, the seniors turned their tassels and officially graduated from Northwest High School. The ceremony lasted about 2 hours. All in all, it was an emotional as well as joyous occasion telling the seniors goodbye and good luck. There was a after party for all of the graduating seniors in Hastings that night. Congratulations to all seniors and good luck in what lies ahead of you.
