Girls Golf Season Underway

The 2008-09 Girls Golf season is underway. This year’s squad consists of 15 girls, including three seniors, four juniors, two sophomores, and six freshmen. The squad is under the direction of Coach Dick Colvin. Returning letterwinners for this year’s squad are Alyssa Raile, Amy Knapp, Sarah Phinney, and Megan Jenneman.

Two of the stronger teams the Vikings will compete against are Minden and Grand Island Central Catholic. Coach Colvin states, “We have a number of skilled players that have some tournament experience. If the work ethic is there to improve, we should have a solid season.”

Senior Karli Luth commented, “I think the season is off to a great start. The team is pretty young, but the girls show a lot of talent and potential. This should be a very successful season.” And Senior Sydney Paige echoed Luth’s comments with “The season is going great. I think this team has the potential to go to state and be very successful on the JV level as well.”

Major golf meets that the Vikings will participate in this year include the Conference Tournament at Seward on October 3, Districts at Hastings on October 7, and the State Meet held at the Riverside Country Club in Grand Island on October 13-14.

The Vikings next major meet will be Saturday, September 13, at the Aurora Invitational. The girls would appreciate your support.
