Students Learn Responsibility

By Mr. Scott Mazour, Principal

The Character Counts! trait for the month of October is “responsibility.” We have tried to emphasize responsibility this month in a variety of ways.

We began the month bringing the students together to talk about what responsibility is and hear their definitions for responsibility. I was very impressed by the students' version of what responsibility looks like, and some defined the word better than I would have!

Throughout the month of October, we are having programs with responsibility as the theme.

On October 2, a musician performed for our fourth-eighth grade students. He also talked about choices and how they affect the rest of one's life. He discussed the responsibility of each student to make the most of their lives and the opportunities we all have living in this great country.

The rural fire department visited on the October 7 and discussed the responsibility we all have to be aware of the danger fire poses in our homes and how best to react when we have fire in our homes.

We will finish the month by having an assembly where we discuss responsibility involving Halloween safety with our kindergarten-fourth grade students. Drug and alcohol responsibility will be discussed with our older students. There will also be a visit from the "drug dog" for all of our students. This assembly will take place on the afternoon of October 30.

If you have questions or concerns involving any of these events, please contact Mr. Mazour at 385-6352.
