OCTOBER MUSIC BOOSTER NEWS & NOTES
by Ruby Tupper
Already the mornings are cooler, days are noticeably shorter, and the leaves are beginning to change. It is hard to believe that Fall is here already. If you are like me you have enthusiastically watched the Northwest Marching Vikings perform their field show during halftime at the home football games. Each time the show has improved. The entire band looks sharper and sounds more amazing each performance.
Just a few weeks ago (August 30th), the band performed in public for the first time this school year at the State Fair wearing new Band T-Shirts. They looked and sounded great at that time. However they took their street marching and field show to the next level at Kearney Band Day Saturday, September 27th.
The Northwest Marching Band brought home awards for Best Drumline, Best Auxiliary Unit (Color Guard), 1st in Class A and the Sweepstakes Award for Best Overall Band. CONGRATULATIONS BAND!! YOU SHOULD ALL BE PROUD!! WHAT A GREAT WAY TO START THE SEASON!!!!
Mr. Shack and the members of 14K Gold hosted the annual Show Choir Camp at Northwest on September 20th and 21st. This year’s theme was “Camp Rock” and that they did!! After two days of workshops and rehearsals, the campers and show choir members staged a performance that brought the house down. Thanks to all of the parents that worked so hard to make this event so successful!
Another activity that keeps Music Boosters very busy this time of the year is concessions. Music Boosters’ major source of income is the profit from running concession stands for all of the sporting events at Northwest High School. This is quite a job if left to only a handful of people.
However, when we have strong support from our members and students, it is a great way to raise the money to support the music programs and help our kids maintain the level of success that has become the tradition here at Northwest. We ask that each family commit to working at a minimum of one concession stand during the year. That way the work does not fall to just a few burned out parents. If you have not volunteered to work, please consider calling today!
Dusty and Diana Hast are the team leaders for football concessions and Julie Griess is coordinating the concessions for Volleyball. Please check the school calendar and if you find that you are available to work, please give them a call. You may reach the Hasts at 308-379-2832 or Julie at 384-3918. If you would rather work during basketball, wrestling, soccer, or track, please call Ruby Tupper at 384-7422. We appreciate your support and cooperation.
ATTENTION all students, this is a great way to earn community service hours. Contact Mr. & Mrs. Hast or Mrs. Griess to volunteer to work.
The directors and students are working diligently to keep the tradition of the Northwest Music program alive and strong. Music Boosters is the perfect way for parents to help support the students, directors and the entire music program. We look forward to another fun and successful year and hope you will join us for our next meeting on Tuesday, October 7th at 7:00 pm in the Band Room.
