1-R School

Monthly Letter to Parents

Scott Mazour, Principal

Dear Parents and Guardians:

Season’s greetings! In addition to wishing you a very happy holiday season, please let me take this opportunity to share with you a few school-related items.

Music Programs  I hope you enjoyed the holiday concert and would like to remind you that the   1-R band concert is Monday, December 22, at 7 p.m. The concert, which will be held at 1-R School, includes performances from participating students in fifth through eighth grade. Speaking of the music programs, I wish to welcome Mrs. Harwart back after having her baby girl! We are very glad she is back in our school, and we congratulate her and all of our students on an entertaining concert!

AMVETS Recipients  I want to tell you some exciting news about our students. 1-R had five students receive state and/or national awards from an essay contest sponsored by the American Veterans (AMVETS)! The contest actually took place last spring. Students wrote about their favorite American hero. Alex Stocker, currently a fifth grader, received first place in the state and third place in the nation for his poster and essay on his American hero, his dad. Logan Luft, a sixth grader, receive third place in the state for his essay about his dad as his hero. Seventh grader Rachel Jacobsen depicted Franklin Roosevelt as her hero and received third place in the state. Eighth grader Dalton Alexander received first place in the state and was also named national champion for his essay about his great-grandfather who fought in World War II. Last but not least, Eryn Hemmer received third place in the state for his description of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. 1-R received the most awards in the state of Nebraska, and incidentally, Nebraska was the state with the most recipients in the country! Congratulations to these deserving students!

Holiday Cheer  As you may know, 1-R decided to “adopt a family” through the Salvation Army this year. I am happy to report our students and staff donated over 100 packages to this lucky family of seven! In addition, a generous 1-R family donated a $500 Wal-Mart gift card to the family as well! This anonymous family, impressed by the education 1-R is providing to their children and the help given to our adopted family, simply wanted to help. Thank you to everyone who made it a very special holiday for this family!

Days in Session  Lastly, please note we will have school all day on Monday, December 22, and until noon on Tuesday, December 23. I sincerely hope each and every 1-R family has a blessed holiday season and is ready to resume classes on Tuesday, January 6!
