Lady Vikes Prepare for State Tournament
The Lady Vikes are state-bound again--extending their streak of consecutive state tournament appearances to eight. However, this year will have a different feel to it because for the first time ever, the tournament will be a three-day event and will provide teams the opportunity to play a consolation game if they lose in the semi-final round.
The Lady Vikes enter the tournament as the #2 seed with a 30-3 record. Northwest begins play on Thursday at Lincoln Southeast against Omaha Skutt. Game time is set for 1:30 pm. The other teams on Northwest's side of the bracket are Aurora and Ogallala. The semifinals will be held at Pershing on Friday at 7 pm. Teams on the other side of the bracket include Lincoln Pius X, Seward, Omaha Gross, and Hastings. State championship games will be on Saturday at the UNL Coliseum. Class B finals will be at 7 pm. The Class B consolation game will be at 2 pm at Lincoln Southeast.
Northwest is very familiar with their opponents this weekend, having played every team except Omaha Gross at least one time this season. Their only losses have been to Pius in a tough five-set match on Pius's home court and then again early in the season at the Beatrice Invitational. This year's state tournament experience should be a memorable one for this year's team and their fans.
