Read Across America Celebrated
Cat in the Hat stops by!
Read Across America Day, which is also Dr. Seuss’ birthday, was celebrated Monday, March 2, at 1-R School in a variety of ways. The Cat in the Hat, which bore a striking resemblance to Mrs. Coates, greeted students at the door as they arrived at school dressed in their pajamas and ready to begin a new day. The Cat distributed goodies and pencils to the students and encouraged them to read as much as possible.
Throughout the week, reading will continue to be emphasized with other activities. Students will be asked to complete a matching-exercise worksheet consisting of the favorite books of the1-R staff. Through this exercise, we hope students will not only discover what books our staff read when they were younger, they will also see reading is important to all of our staff. To further instill this concept, members of our staff will present book talks in various classrooms. (A book talk is a brief discussion of a book that was read and enjoyed in the hopes the listener will want to read the same book.)
Parents, we encourage you to ask your children about their experiences this week, and better yet, take time to enjoy reading to or with your child! Keep reading 1-R School!
