Monthly Letter to Parents
Scott Mazour, Principal
Dear Parents and Guardians:
Below are just a few of the activities taking place at 1-R School. Please remember that you can also go to the school’s Webpage at www.ginorthwest.org to keep abreast of the activities at 1-R School.
School Nurse I am pleased to announce that Mrs. Jennifer Penner has been hired as the new school nurse for the Northwest feeder schools. Mrs. Penner has already completed the health screenings at 1-R and will be working at 1-R on Fridays and as needed throughout the year.
Spelling Bee Brenden Holling, Macey Kroeger, Allison Beckmann, and Evan Wiese represented 1-R extremely well at the Hall County Spelling Bee. All performed admirably, with Brenden taking first in the county in the fifth grade written competition and second in the fifth grade oral competition. Evan also placed first in the eighth grade written competition and third in the eighth grade oral competition. Congratulations to all participants!
Quiz Bowl The Northwest Public Schools Quiz Bowl was held at Cedar Hollow in February. Each school sent two teams. I am proud to say both teams performed very well, with the 1-R Black Lightning Team bringing home the championship trophy for the third year in a row! Representing 1-R at the quiz bowl were: Kelly Bockmann, Garrett Byerly, Isaiah Daws, Rachel Jacobsen, Logan Luft, Kylie Luth, James Mendyk, Hannah O’Malley, Kayla Peters, Alex Stocker, Jordan Watson, and Evan Wiese,
MathCounts The 1-R MathCounts team placed third out of 24 teams in the Midstates MathCounts competition held February 3 in Kearney, qualifying the team to attend the state competition in Lincoln in March. In addition, Evan Wiese was named the individual champion of the competition and Kayla Peters placed third overall, both qualifying individually for state as well. Other members of the team that traveled to Kearney were: Jacob Byerly, Braydon Ehlers, Chris Hemmer, Jeremy Kroeger, Ashley Scherer, and Brandon Treffer. It should be noted that these students excelled against all of the largest schools in central Nebraska, again making 1-R even more proud of all of our students’ accomplishments!
Spirit Week 1-R Spirit Week kicks off this coming week, beginning on Monday, March 1. We plan to show our school spirit by dressing up in a variety of ways. You can find a list of the spirit week activities at the bottom of the March activity calendar. In addition to spirit week, next week is also Dr. Seuss’ birthday, and we have heard rumors of a possible visit by the Cat in the Hat himself! We also plan to have a couple authors on hand to promote Read Across America Day, which coincides with Dr. Seuss’ birthday on March 2. Please visit with your child about their experiences on these days.
Again, thanks to all of you for playing an important role in making 1-R School a great place to learn!
