Character Counts At 1-R
Students Learn Responsibility
Character Counts! is a program 1-R School is utilizing that focuses on the skills needed to work well with other people and be successful in life. The program strives to help students practice good character through the Six Pillars of Character: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship.
Responsibility is the character trait 1-R has been emphasizing during the month of October. As part of a continuing awareness of “responsibility,” 1-R recently held an assembly for students in grades 5-8. A skit was performed with the help of Officer Hoback from the Hall County Sheriff's Department and a few eighth grade students. Some of the students in the skit displayed appropriate responsibility traits while others did not. Officer Hoback did a great job role-playing with the students who had made irresponsible choices and then explained to the rest of the students exactly what would happen to students who acted irresponsibly and why.
In the near future, we hope to have Officer Hoback return to 1-R for an assembly with our K-4 students.
