The preschool celebrated "Dental Health Week: February 22-26! The teachers read numerous books about how to take care of our teeth and the preschoolers engaged in many fun activities.  The preschoolers were able to go"shopping" by cutting out pictures of food that is healthy for our teeth and gluing it onto paper plates.  They also turned yellow tooth cut-outs white by painting them with a shiny white paint.

The favorite activity of the week was watching our science experiments! We poked holes into an apple to show what cavities look like on a tooth.  The preschoolers were amazed at how quickly the "cavities" got bigger and turned brown and soft.  We put three eggs in milk, pop, and vinegar to see what effects they had on the white eggs.  The preschoolers correctly predicted that the egg in the coke would turn brown and the egg in the milk would stay white. However, they were surprised when the vinegar egg became soft just like germs can do to our teeth!

I would like to express a big thank you to the three dentist offices who sponsored our "Dental Health Week".  Steve Ecklund of Grand Island donated toothbrushes.  Charles Schaepler of Kearney donated toothbrushes, toothpaste, floss, and brochures.  Lockwood & Meeske Pediatric Dentistry of Grand Island donated a bag full of goodies including a toothbrush, toothpaste, and a sticker chart to keep track of brushing.  Lockwood and Meeske also sent a dental hygienist to speak to the afternoon preschool class!

Remember to brush twice a day, floss once a day, and visit your dentist regularly! If you have any questions . . just ask a preschooler!
