The Red Cross Bloodmobile is looking for student volunteers to assist with signing in and greeting blood donors. Beginning July 1, the bloodmobile will be open until 6:30 so students would also be able to volunteer after school. If interested, please contact Chris Heusel at 382-3790.

Nebraska Equine Assisted Therapy is looking for volunteers experienced with horses to assist with therapeutic horseback riding for children and adults with physical and/or mental challenges at the Hilltop Mini-Ranch between Grand Island and Phillips, on Tuesday evenings, May 27 through August 19, 2008. NEAT Summer Volunteer Opportunity

NEAT Volunteer Application


The Grand Island Community Youth Council is looking for volunteers to help at the 3rd annual "Family Day in the Park" on Saturday, June 7th at Stolley Park. The all-day event is free to all ages and is intended to promote family fun, involvement and health. It is also a celebration for the community of Grand Island as picked as a winner as one of the "100 Best" communities. Some activites included in the day that volunteers will be helping with are a scavenger hunt with prizes, obstacle course, rock climbing wall, fatal vision course, army vehicle display, helicopter, soccer challenge, educational pavillion, train rides, a variety of carnival style activites, GIFD smoke house, Guitar Hero, snow cones, cotton candy, magician Jeff Quinn, and a family movie (Bee Movie). St. Francis Medical Center is hosting their Teen Volunteer Orientation on Saturday, May 17, from 9 am to noon in Room 1. Volunteer opportunities include assisting staff in the Cancer Treatment Center, helping with toddlers in daycare, and helping with activities in Skilled Care. This is also an excellent opportunity to learn more about health-related professions. For more information, call 398-5564.


Hope Harbor is in need of volunteers to assist in several areas:

  • Tutoring--Monday through Thursday from 3:30 to 5:30. Volunteers will be working with children ages 5 to 17 years of age.
  • Sorting through donations--best times are from 7 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday; however, arrangements can be made for groups of volunteers to come in on evenings or weekends if necessary.
  • Cleaning the facility--assist with sprucing up either the interior or exterior.
  • Collecting food for their pantry--the shelter is at maximum capacity right now and needs a lot of food to provide three meals a day for several families.
