Note from the Principal’s Desk
Welcome back!! 2018 arrived just as cold and blustery as 2017 ended. We hope you had a wonderful Holiday Season. We are excited to be back in session and have students filling our classrooms. Students and teachers are off and running busy as ever so, I thought I would drop you a note about 1R happenings, reminders and updates. Please continue to check the 1R website, calendar, Facebook, Twitter and Bloomz accounts to help you stay updated.
School closing information will be posted on KOLN/KGIN, KLKN-TV, KRGI Radio along with Northwest District websites, alerts, and social media. Please remember students will go outside if temperatures are not below 20 degrees or wind chills feel below 20 degrees. Students need warm coats, hats, gloves each day. Students who wish to play in the snow need snow pants and boots. Students should also bring separate pair of shoes to wear in doors.
K-8 students will be taking the Winter MAPS assessment January 23- Feb. 2nd. Teachers will discuss fall scores with students and set goals for improvement. Please ask your child about their goal and encourage them to do their best. Parents you may help your child achieve their goal by making sure they get a goodnight rest and eat a healthy breakfast on testing days. We will share student scores at parent teacher conferences in February.
The sicknesses bug has arrived. If your child has temperature they need to stay home for at least 24 hours after the fever breaks. If they are on an antibiotic for at least 24 hours they may return to school. Encourage them to wash their hands regularly or use sanitizers. We are wiping down desks and classrooms at school on a regular basis. Mrs. Bowen sent home information on a Healthy Smiles program through the Central Nebraska Health Department it is free of charge. Packets went home this week with information about the program. Please return the consent forms to your classroom teachers. If you have any questions please contact Mrs. Bowen in the school office. The Dental Hygienist will be at 1R on Monday, January 20th.
8th Grade Orientation is on Thursday, February 1st beginning at 6:45p.m. in the Northwest auditorium. We encourage all 8th students enrolled in our K-8 feeders or any 8th grader in the area to attend this informational meeting. The Northwest teachers, coaches, and administration have a great night planned for students and parents. Please come out and see all Northwest has to offer while preparing your child for future success.
PTO has been very busy this year. We greatly appreciate all their work and support. Please be watching for upcoming events. On Friday, January 26 PTO will host a 1R Family Movie Night in the gym. More information will be sent in the coming weeks.
