Note from the Principal

It is first day of Spring and the sun is shining! Whether it is warm outside or not the sun just feels wonderful after these past couple of months. It is hard believe, we are a couple weeks into the fourth quarter and before you know it school will be out. Time will truly fly by, please continue to monitor the website and calendar for important dates and events.

Congratulations to our students who competed at the Hall County Spelling Bee! We are proud of Meagan McIntyre, Noah Croghan, Wyatt Gildersleeve, and Bishop Placke.  They represented 1R very well! Congratulations to our Middle School District Quiz Bowl Team for placing 4th at the ESU 10 Quiz Bowl! Team members from 1R were Bishop Placke and Annabelle Smallwood. The Northwest team place 4th out of 37 teams. Super Proud of them!

Mr. Meyer is excited to try something new with 5-8 Band. He will be hosting a district-wide band concert with students in 5-8th band from 1R, St. Libory, Cedar Hollow and Chapman. This will give our band students a great opportunity to perform a few more songs and in a much larger ensemble. The 5-8 Band ONLY concert will be on Tuesday, May 8 at 7:00pm. at Northwest High School Auditorium.

We are excited to offer K-8 Registration Online! Our goal is to eliminate one more thing you have to stop out and do. You will be able to access the survey link from our website. The registration window will be from April 10th through 23rd. The link will be open 24-7 during this window for parents to access. This will hopefully steam line the registration process for parents and us. We will not be hosting any days in May for registration it will all take place during this window in April. Please be patient as this is new and I am sure we will have some glitches to work out. We will send more information out as the registration window gets closer.

It is that time a year again for state assessments in April. Please watch the school calendar for your child’s testing days. If at all possible avoid scheduling appointments or being absent. This really helps us keep on schedule, plus not stressing your child on having to make up tests. Teachers also typically send reminders home week or days before. It is very important they get a good night sleep and have healthy breakfast so they are ready to go. Please cheer them on and given them lots of encouragement!  We know it is that time of year spring fever, end of school nearing, help us pump them up for one last round of great effort!!

Thank you PTO for hosting our March Breakfast Buddies and all the work you did this year! We had another great turnout. Thanks to PTO, the 1R sign will  be moved in the next couple of weeks closer to the road and viewable from both sides. Since the change in traffic flow, the sign has faced the wrong direction to share information. We are excited to have it in new location and make use of it again! PTO will also be sending out the Spring Flower fundraiser forms soon. Flowers will be delivered the week before Mother’s Day. Thanks for your support of the 1R PTO!
