Driver Education

Driver Education

Due to retirement, the Driver’s ED program is now being taught through the Nebraska Safety Center at UNK.  Cost is $330.  Registration deadline is two weeks prior to the course start date.  You may register and pay online at:  www.unk.edu/dred (scroll down to Grand Island Northwest Driver Education)

Enrollment will be on a first-come, first-serve basis.  Classes which do not meet the minimum enrollment are subject to cancellation.  Classes require a minimum enrollment of 8 students and are limited to a maximum of 24 students.  Each student is required by the Nebraska DMV to have a valid permit in order to enroll in this course.

Classes will be held at Northwest High School. Behind-the-wheel drive times are scheduled with the instructor at  mutually convenient times and will be completed as quickly as possible.  Range and simulation will be held at the Nebraska Safety Center in Kearney.  Transportation to Kearney will be provided by the Nebraska Safety Center.  Please send lunch/snacks with your child for Range and Simulation.

Driver Education is offered at Northwest High School on the following dates:

Class 1

Class:  April 30-May 4 & May 7-May 11 (5:30pm-7:30pm)

Range & Sim in Kearney: May 18 (10am-6:30pm)

 

Class 2

Class:  May 21-25 (8am-12:30pm)

Range & Sim in Kearney:  May 30 (10am-6:30pm)

 

Class 3

Class:  June 25-29 (12:30pm-5:00pm)

Range & Sim in Kearney:  July 5 (10am-6:30pm)

 

Class 4

Class:  July 9-13 (12pm-5pm)

Range & Sim in Kearney:  July 12 (9am-5:30pm)

Registrations will be accepted via fax, mail and online.  No telephone registrations will be accepted. REGISTRATIONS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED AT THE HIGH SCHOOL.  All payments (except online), must be sent to the Nebraska Safety Center.
