October Note from the Principal
Dear Parents or Guardians,
How quickly time flies!! The leaves are changing colors and temperatures are dropping signaling the arrival of fall – one of my favorite times of year! We are closing out the first quarter and it is the end of fall sports. Time is flying by but it has been a fantastic start to the school year! Students and staff are settled into the daily routines and rigors of the classroom. One R is truly an awesome place with wonderful students, caring staff and involved parents.
Parent-teacher conferences have come and gone. We had almost 100% turnout for K-5 and nearly 80% for Middle School. Thank you for taking an active interest in your child’s education. We believe the educational process is a shared responsibility between home and school. We love to share how your child is growing and learning. Power School is also a great tool for keeping track of grades and other school information. Please do not hesitate to call or email a teacher if you have questions.
Mrs. Langrehr would like to thank everyone for their wonderful support of the Book Fair. The goal was $2500. Actual sales were $2300. This allowed the library to purchase about 120 new books – awesome!! We would also like to thank the Hovie family for their donation of five cool chairs in the library. If you get a chance please tell them thank you! The students love them! The best Reading instruction is to read for 15 minutes each day. As the cold weather sets in cuddle up with a your child, a warm blanket, some hot chocolate and read one of your favorite childhood books together.
The first quarter will close out on Thursday, Oct. 11th. Important notice district-wide report cards will be sent home through the Power School email system. Parents you will directly receive the report card in your email account. There will not be a physical copy sent home with your child for you to sign and return. We will send notices via Power School alerts, Facebook and Twitter to help remind you. Report Cards will be emailed on Friday, Oct. 19th.
As weather begins to change please be mindful and remind your children to dress for the weather. Please have them bring heavy coats, gloves/mittens and hats. As the snow begins to fly they will need snow boots and pants if they would like to play in the snow. We will go outside as long as feels like 20 degrees or above. Weather closings will continue to be posted on local TV networks channels 5, 8, 10/11 and 13. It will be broadcast on radio as well. Northwest Power School alerts will be the most accurate information. Please watch our Facebook and Twitter feeds.
Thank you to our PTO for the Open House Kick Off, Breakfast Buddies and DQ Dining Night Out in September. Reminder PTO meetings are the second Monday of the month at 6:00 PM in the Library. They have a bunch of fundraising going on. They are working hard towards a goal of adding more playground equipment. Students have been fundraising money through Penny Wars the last couple of weeks. There will be another Dining Night out coming up on Oct. 16, from 4-10 PM at Texas Roadhouse. On Sunday, October 21 from 5-7 PM come out to the 1R parking lot for some scary fun at Trunk or Treat! You can decorate your trunk or pickup box or just come out and enjoy some 1R family fun. PTO will have a concession stand open.
Thank you again for your continued support in your child’s education. Remember to follow us on Facebook, Twitter and the Google Calendar. We look forward to serving you the rest of this year! As always please do not hesitate to call or stop in the office if you have questions.
Mr. Retzlaff, Principal
