November Note From Principal
1R Parents and Guardians,
Happy Holidays from all of us at 1R! We are truly blessed to be serving wonderful students and families. I hope all of you are able to take time and enjoy your family and friends this holiday season.
The 1R Winter Concert will be on Monday, Dec. 17th @ 7:00p.m. in the Northwest High School Auditorium. The students along with Mr. Pearson and Mr. Meyer have been working hard. Students will be assigned to classrooms like in the past. There is plenty of seating in the auditorium. We ask that students show up at 6:30 p.m. PTO members will provide cookies following the concert in the hallway.
Northwest will use Power School as our mass communication delivery system for important information like weather and school closings. Please update your contact information in Power School. Announcements will also be made on KOLN/KGIN (Lincoln) and KLKN-TV (Lincoln). Northwest and 1R Social Media will also provide information.
Please make sure your children are dressing appropriately as the weather changes. Coats, hats, and gloves will all be important as we will continue to have outside recess. Students must have snow pants and boots to play in the snow. They need to be snow boots not everyday dress boots. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
As you may already be aware, LB42 was passed by our Legislature in 2018 and changed the requirements for child passenger seats. I’ve attached information detailing the changes that will become effective January 1, 2019. Child passenger seat requirement violations are a primary offense and drivers can get a ticket for failing to comply with the new law. Seatbelt Information
We are excited to kick off Rebel Rewards at 1R. Teachers and staff will be searching for those positive behaviors. Students will receive a Rebel Reward Card for a variety of things such as good behavior, working hard, being polite, positive attitude, being kind to others, on task etc… These bright Orange Rebel Reward Cards will be sent home to share with parents. You may also receive a phone call, email or text from the teacher celebrating your child. Student names will be put in a weekly drawing from K-2, 3-5 and 6-8 and then names will be drawn for a variety of rewards. We want to celebrate and encourage the positive things happening at 1R.
Each spring 3rd-8th grade take state assessments in Reading and Math. 5th-8th grade also take a state science assessment. These tests used to be called NESA, but are now titled NSCAS which stands for Nebraska Student-Centered Assessment System. A week or so ago you should have received your child’s NSCAS scores along with information on how to read and interpret the scores. 3rd-5th reports were sent home with your child in their take home folders. 6th-8th were mailed. If you have not received your child’s scores or need more information please contact your teacher or the office.
We wish you and your family a wonderful holiday season! Remember to follow us on Facebook, Twitter and the Google Calendar. As always please do not hesitate to call or stop in the office if you have questions. Thank you for your continued partnership and support of your child’s education. Please do not hesitate to contact the office if you have need assistance or have questions.
