April 2, 2020 School Closure Update
April 2, 2020
Dear NWPS Parents/Guardians,
Last night around 9:00 P.M. Governor Pete Ricketts issued a new Directed Health Measure (DRM) including a directive that all school buildings in Nebraska will be closed to students through May 31, 2020. The 2019-20 school year is scheduled to end on Wednesday, May 20th, so we will complete this school year with our online learning opportunities beginning Monday, April 6th.
Local Events:
One part of the Governor’s DRM was that all NSAA Spring Activities have been cancelled. We have postponed other local events (Musical, Prom) and will meet in the coming week to make decisions on those activities; whether they can be postponed or if they must be cancelled due to the new guidelines we are operating under.
Graduation:
May 17th is our scheduled graduation date. At this time, a final decision has not been made other than we will not be allowed to hold a traditional ceremony on that date. We are putting together a google form, asking specific graduation related questions, which will be sent to seniors and their parents early next week. Once those responses are gathered and reviewed, a formal announcement on graduation will be made. Graduation is an important day and we want to make sure it is a day students will remember.
Each day seems to bring new information and new challenges as we work through this pandemic. It is important during this time to focus on the things that we can control. The new learning opportunities will begin on Monday, April 6th, if you or your student has any questions, please reach out to your teacher or building administrator. If you have any questions, please let us know.
Sincerely,
Jeffrey E. Edwards, Ed.D
Superintendent
