2020 Summer Weights Information

2020 Summer Weight Room COVID-19 Plan
The guidelines below, our NW facilities and our current infection rate in Grand Island are all factors in the plan you see below.

8-Week Program

Start Date: Monday, June 1st

End Date: Thursday, July 23rd

Moratorium:  Friday, July 3rd – Monday, July 6th

                       Athletes return on TUESDAY, JULY 7TH

Test-out Week: July 27th – 30th.


Programming Plan 
Five day program per week. This includes lift and movement indoor and outdoor.
This program will utilize two weight rooms, servicing a total of 18 athletes per session and using the outdoor facilities servicing 18 athletes per session.

Weekly Outlook
5 day training schedule broken up into a 3 day lift/two day movement plan.
Daily Plans
All Workouts will be planned in groups of 10 students and 1 coach and 8 students and 1 coach. Each session will be 60 minutes in length.
Each athlete will have their temperature taken prior to entering the high school facility.
Student-Athlete Workout Schedule: 36 total athletes (18 indoors & 18 outdoors)
Boys Session (10th – 12th grade): 5:45am – 7:15am

5:45am – 6:00am: Screening/Check-in/warm up (Temperature, Covid-19 Form and Group Assignment)

6:00am – 7:00am: Lift or movement

7:00am – 7:15am: Cool down 


Boys Session (10th – 12th grade): 6:45am – 8:15am

6:45am – 7:00am: Screening/Check-in/warm up (Temperature, Covid-19 Form and Group Assignment)

7:00am – 8:00am: Lift or movement

8:00am – 8:15am: Cool down 


Girls Session (10th – 12th grade): 7:45am – 9:15am

7:30am – 7:45am: Screening/Check-in/warm up (Temperature, Covid-19 Form and Group Assignment)

8:00am – 9:00am: Lift or movement

9:00am – 9:15am: Girls departure 


Girls Session (10th – 12th grade): 8:45am – 10:15am

8:45am – 9:00am: Screening/Check-in/warm up (Temperature, Covid-19 Form and Group Assignment)

9:00am – 10:00am: Lift or movement

10:00am – 10:15am: Girls departure 


Incoming 9th Grade Girls Session: 9:45am – 11:15am

Incoming 9th Grade Boys Session: 10:45am – 12:15pm

11:00am – 12:00pm: Lift or movement

12:00pm – 12:15pm: Incoming 9th Grade departure and equipment putting away


Multi Sport Session (Co-Ed) 5:15pm – 6:45pm

5:15pm-5:30pm: Screening/Check-in/warm up (Temperature, Covid-19 Form and Group Assignment)

5:30pm-6:30pm: Lift or movement

6:30pm-6:45pm: Depart 

Check-in/screening areas will be set up right outside the east gate in the main parking area on the east side of the high school.  Each athlete will report to this gate everyday to check in. 

Daily data collection will consist of the following information:
    -Student Name
    -Assigned workout group
    -3 Questions
       -Have you had contact with anyone who has tested positive for Covid-19 in the past 14
       -Have you had a fever above 100.0 degrees in the past 14 days?
       -Have you experienced any shortness of breath or had trouble breathing?

Temperature Screenings:
Athletes will have their temperature taken daily at check-in.
     -Temperature readings of 100.4 degrees and over will results in the staff/student being sent 
     -Athletes parents will be contacted if an athlete is sent home for a temperature above
      100.4 degrees.
     -Medical clearance in the form of a note must be obtained by the student
      before they are allowed to return to the weight room after being sent home with an elevated

Additional Items

Bathrooms:               Bathrooms will not be in use except for emergencies. If an “emergency”
                                   occurs, the “floating” coaches will escort the student to the restroom at the
                                   stadium, wait until completed, the staff member will then spray the
                                   restroom with disinfectant, and then the student and staff member will
                                   return to the training area.  Only 1 student is allowed in the restroom at
                                   a time.  If a staff member needs to use the restroom, all cleaning
                                   requirements after use are the same.
Water:                        Students are expected to bring their own water in a water bottle for
                                   hydration purposes. Water fountains will be shut off and water jugs WILL
                                   NOT be provided.  No students should share water.
Hand Sanitizer:         Available at the end of the check-in/screening area and all students will
                                   be required to use it before dispersing to their workout groups.  Hand
                                   sanitizer will also be available at each group for all students to use during
                                   the session if they feel they need to use it again and all students will be
                                   required to use hand sanitizer before they leave for the day. 
Masks:                        Students will be required to wear a mask when they reach the
                                    check-in/screening area and will be asked to wear the mask until they
                                    reach their training groups area.  They will also be required to wear their 
                                    mask when they leave their training area until they leave the school 
                                    property.  Students will be asked to bring their own mask.  If they do not
                                    bring their own mask, they will be provided with one.
Personal items:        All personal items (i.e keys, phone) must be placed in their workout space
                                   in the marked training areas.
Social Distancing:
Screenings               Lines will be marked with 6 ft of distance between students
                                   as they wait in the screening area and coaches will be required to help
                                   enforce social distancing
                                   Training Area – Areas will be marked with 6 ft of distance between
                                   students in training area and the training area coach will be required
                                   to enforce social distancing
Training Groups       Training groups will have a maximum of 10 students and will be 
                                    determined upon arrival to NWHS for the workout session.  Once a 
                                    student is assigned to a group, they will not be allowed to change
                                    groups that day.
Group Interactions  All interaction between other groups will be prohibited.  
Violations                 Students who intentionally violate the social distancing rules or 
                                   intentionally try to mix with other groups and do not change their
                                   behavior with redirection from coaches will be asked to leave the
                                   training session for the day and their parents will be contacted.
Social Gatherings:   When students have completed their workout, they are expected to 
                                    leave the school grounds immediately.  Students will not be allowed
                                    to stay in the parking lot and talk with each other.  Students who are 
                                    waiting on their parent to pick them up from their workout must stand
                                    6 ft apart from each other at all times.
In-climate Weather: Due to in-climate weather, there will be no movement days outside. Meaning events that are scheduled to be outside this day are cancelled, but if your group is scheduled to be inside this day your activities will go on as scheduled.                 


Athlete and Parent Notification
We will notify parents if an athlete does have a temperature or has an unexcused absence.
