A Note from Mr. Mazour

A Note from Mr. Mazour

Parents & Guardians,

Happy New Year! I hope you had a wonderful holiday break. We are excited to see the students back tomorrow, Tuesday, January 5th.  We look forward to serving you and your children in 2021. I wanted to share updates and information as we kick this new year off.

Tier Update: Northwest Public Schools will continue at Tier II.  We will continue to ask our staff and students to wear face-coverings when we cannot socially distance. I’m proud of our students and staff for the manner in which they handled this in the fall. Please make sure your child has a mask with them each and every day. Students will enter classrooms at 7:45 to help minimize congestion in the hallways, along with staggered dismissals between periods. Thank you to the custodians for doing an outstanding job disinfecting classrooms, hallways, lockers and bathrooms before and after school, as well as over lunch. The district will continue to have weekly updates on Tier levels. This information can also be found on the district website under the “Northwest Return to School Plan.” We will continue to follow these protocols along with the DHM’s.

Reminder: Please make sure your child has a water bottle they can bring to and from school daily. Our drinking fountains will remain off, and students will continue to be allowed to fill their water bottles at the bottle filling station.

Weather Reminders: It is important to send your children with the appropriate clothing for this time of year. We typically go outside if it feels like 20 degrees or above. We will do our best to get outside when we can, if even for a short time.

Report Cards: All Kindergarten through eighth grade second quarter report cards will be available on Friday, January 15th, via PowerSchool. Please log in to see your child’s progress during the second quarter. If you cannot find your child’s grades, please contact the office and we will make sure you get them. Reminder, for information or access to the portal go to the Northwest website under “Parents” tab and click on Power School.

9th grade Orientation: For those students currently in eighth grade, freshmen orientation at Northwest High School will occur Thursday, February 4.  It will be an evening activity for both students and parents where you will learn more about what Northwest has to offer.  More specific information will be available as that date approaches.

Boys Basketball: Our seventh and eighth grade boys participating in basketball will begin their experience Tuesday, January 5, after school.  Our seventh grade boys will practice at 1-R and will be bussed there immediately after school.  Our eighth grade boys will practice at Cedar Hollow.  You can pick the boys up immediately after practice at those facilities.  Your son received information regarding specific practice times and schedules before Christmas.  Coaches are listed below.

7th Grade Coach – Anthony LaRosa – alarosa@ginorthwest.org                                                        8th Grade Coach – Scott Johnson – sjohnson@ginorthwest.org

Honor Choir: All girls in grades 6-8 will be offered the opportunity to participate in honor choir after school for two weeks beginning Thursday, January 7. Girls will be bussed to Northwest High School immediately after school for practice and can be picked up at 5:00 each day after practice at Northwest. Mrs. Glaser is the contact person for this experience.  aglaser@ginorthwest.org

Cheerleading: In addition, we are offering cheerleading to our eighth grade girls only.  Information regarding this has already been sent home, but practice will begin Monday, January 11.  Mrs. Blank is the contact person for cheerleading.  ablank@ginorthwest.org

On behalf of the staff and myself, we thank you for your continued support. I very much appreciate your patience and understanding as we continue our school year!

Sincerely,

Mr. Mazour
