Note from the Principal February 2021
Dear Parents & Guardians,
January flew by and February is just around the corner. Old man winter decided we need a little more snow I guess. I hope the Groundhog does not see his shadow and spring will arrive early. Please remember with the cold temperatures and snow on the ground to send winter clothes (hats, gloves, mittens, snow boots and snow pants) if your child wishes to play in the snow. We will continue to go outside if temperatures are above 20 degrees.
Northwest 8th grade and New Student Orientation is this Thursday, Feb. 4 in the Northwest Auditorium. Open House begins at 6 p.m. with the Program to follow at 7 p.m. This is a great opportunity to check out all Northwest has to offer. Teachers, sponsors, coaches and administrators will all be present to answer questions and share information about Northwest Public.
Parent Teacher conferences will be Wednesday, Feb.10th and Thursday the 11th from 2-8 p.m. School will be dismissed at 12 p.m. both days and no lunches will be served. We will host in person conferences like in the fall. K-5 conferences are scheduled individually with your child’s classroom teacher. Please contact them if you have not set up a time. 6-8 conferences are not scheduled for specific times. Parents can come anytime between 2-8 p.m. Mr. Sybrandts and Mr. Snyder will be available on Wednesday at 1R. Mr. Pearson and Mr. Musil will be at 1R on Thursday. There will be NO School on Friday, Feb. 12th. I would like to remind parents and legal guardians of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). We cannot share academic information with anyone other than biological parents or documented legal guardians. While we value and recognize it takes a community to raise a child, we cannot share academic information outside these parameters (including stepparents, grandparents, siblings, aunts, uncles, boyfriends or girlfriends etc.) We thank you for your cooperation with meeting these requirements of the law. If you have not accessed your child’s report card it is in your parent portal in PowerSchool. If you have questions please contact our office or Stacey Pawling in the district office.
We will be having another online Scholastic Book Fair during the Parent Teacher Conferences. Mrs. McGowan will be sharing a link when the book fair is open. We wish this could be an in person book fair but Scholastic is not offering one this year. Please check out the link when it is made available. Mrs. McGowan uses the funds raised to buy new books for our library.
The second middle school trimester will end on February 11th. Mr. Spiehs will finish up Careers this next week. Students have explored many different careers they may have had interest in. They also took career/interest inventories to find out areas they may want to explore in the future. Mrs. Felske will join us for the last trimester. Students will continue to develop their skills with technology and some stem type projects.
Patience, Patience, Patience is the key to a safe driveway and parking lot. Our first priority is that everyone is SAFE!! When entering the driveway from the North please adhere to the right aways and be respectful of each other trying to pull in. During drop off in the morning please pull forward beyond the cross walk, students in the North lane exit to the North safe zone. If you are in the South lane please have your child go to the Cross Walk and not dodge in and out of cars. Mr. McCulla is there to assist and help keep everyone safe. Please take a second look before pulling ahead.
On Wednesday, February 17th all 6th-8th grade band members will be involved with a district-wide band clinic being held at Northwest High school.
