Note from the Principal-April
Dear Parents and Guardians:
I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter Break! The sunshine is so refreshing after a very chilly and rainy March. I am so excited to say we are six weeks from completing the 2020-21 school year. It has been a challenging year, but a great year. We have successfully been in school since August 13, 2020, and plan to finish the year in school as well. I appreciate your support in helping make this happen. Face coverings, hand washing, spraying desks and chairs often, staying home when not feeling well, and many other out of the ordinary things have made this possible. Thank You!
Academically our students continue to work hard as we close out the school year. 3rd-8th students are finishing up the state NSCAS pilot assessment during the next week or so. On April 19th, the MAPS assessment will open up as we close out the school year. Our students and teachers are setting individual and classroom goals for this final spring assessment. This assessment, while only one tool, gives us a good picture of your child’s growth throughout the year. Our School Improvement team sets goals for our building each year based on the NWEA MAPS assessment. Results of the winter assessment showed that our students are very close to meeting those lofty goals in all three subject areas of Math, Reading and Language Arts. We are confident our students will achieve those high standards we have set for them. Please help us set your child up for success with a good night sleep prior to the test, a healthy breakfast, daily attendance and positive support from you. All of these things will help them reach their goals.
Our middle school soccer teams will kick off their first game this Thursday. Girls will play at Westridge at 4:15 p.m. Boys will play at Northwest vs. Westridge at 4:30 p.m. We wish them luck in this inaugural season! Our NW Middle School Trap team has had a couple of competitions already. We have several individuals and groups shooting exceptionally well early in the season. Great Job! Track will be kicking off in another week. Please check the 1R google calendar and website for when these athletes will be competing. We wish all of our teams good luck in their spring seasons!
A big shout out and thank you to our students and Mr. Sybrandts. During March, students raised $1,020 for the American Heart Association. We are so thankful for such caring students and families at 1R. Your children’s kindness and caring will help so many in their fight against heart disease and research. They truly represent the “W” in our ROW expectations. TeamWork and making a difference in the lives of others. We are so proud of them!
4th and 5th grade will head to Lincoln this Friday, April 9th. We are excited that both classes will get this opportunity. While it may look a little different, we are very grateful they will still get to see the Capital and will also take in the Lincoln Zoo. This will be a fun day for the students and teachers.
Mark your calendars and help spread the word. Introduction into Kindergarten is set for Tuesday, April 13, at 6:30 p.m. in the 1R gym. We are looking for next year’s Kindergarteners. If you have a child who is 5 years old on or before July 31, 2016, they are eligible to attend kindergarten. Please call the office (308-385-6352) and let Mrs. Bachle know. We will add them to our list and begin sharing important information with those families. Thanks for spreading the word.
The PTO flower fundraiser flyer was sent out last week and will be closing on April 16th. If you need a great Mother’s Day gift, consider participating in this fundraiser. Lastly, I wanted to highlight on the topic media balance. It can sometimes be hard for kids to trade the excitement of the digital world for real-world experiences. Balance is unique for every family and every circumstance. The resource linked below will provide more information and insight on this topic.
On behalf of the staff and myself, we thank you for your continued support. Please follow our 1R Google calendar for the most current events and check out our 1R Facebook page. If you have questions regarding your child’s education, please do not hesitate to contact the office at 385-6352.
