21-22 Back to School Information from Dr. Edwards

August 10, 2021

Dear Parents/Guardians,

As we learned during the 2020-2021 school year, information regarding COVID-19 is consistently changing.  Northwest Public Schools will continue to monitor the status of COVID and pandemic-related concerns in Nebraska and in our region.  We look forward to welcoming students back in classrooms on Thursday, August 12th.  Like last school year, the circumstances and guidance surrounding the pandemic are always changing. Therefore, we ask for your patience and understanding as we continue to work through any challenges brought our way which may cause us to change our plans.

Cleaning/Facility Modifications: We take cleaning and sanitization seriously to protect our students, staff and families from COVID – related illness as well as any other contagious conditions.  High-touch areas will be cleaned on a regular basis throughout the school day.  Classroom tables will be spread out as much as possible.

Face Coverings: The wearing of face coverings for students and staff will not be required.

Hand Washing/Sanitizer: We have learned that personal hygiene is a key factor in reducing the spread of contagious diseases. Please wash hands and continue proper hygiene to reduce the spread of contagious diseases. Hand sanitizer will be made available for students and staff in each classroom and lunchroom. Students will be encouraged to continue to increase handwashing.

Screening and Self-Monitoring: We will continue to monitor students for temperatures or illness related symptoms as appropriate.  If your student does not feel well and is showing signs of COVID – fever of 100.0, (we use this as our guiding temperature for the flu season, therefore we will stay consistent with 100.0 degrees vs. the 100.4 you hear about with COVID), cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, chills, unusual muscle pain, headache, sore throat, loss of taste or smell, they need to stay home.

Visitors: Visitors are welcome at all Northwest School locations. Visitor attendance at activities and sporting events is currently open with no attendance limits.

As we have learned through the past year, things can change quickly.  All of these protocols may be subject to change according to State Guidance.  If you have any questions or concerns please contact me at (308) 385-6389 or email at jedwards@ginorthwest.org.

Sincerely,

Jeffrey E. Edwards, Ed.D
