Welcome back: A note from Mr. Mazour

Welcome back: A note from Mr. Mazour

Cedar Hollow Parents and Guardians,

I want to welcome back all of our returning Cedar Hollow families, and welcome all families experiencing Cedar Hollow for the first time.  I very much look forward to partnering with you in your child’s education!  The trust you put in our staff to educate, nurture, challenge, and protect your child is a huge responsibility for our school staff, and one that we do not take lightly.

I want to provide some information for you to help you prepare for the upcoming school year.  You should have received information from Northwest regarding lunch for your child(ren).  A reminder that lunch is no longer provided to all students free this year, but if you have an interest in free/reduced lunch, that option is still available based on specific qualifications via the application process noted below.

In addition, you should have received information regarding bussing to Cedar Hollow.  We offer bussing from 3 locations both to and from school.  Beginning shortly after 7 am, our bus route will offer pick ups at the Pump n Pantry at the corner of Bismarck and Shady Bend Rd., then to the corner of Goldenrod Dr. and Roselawn Dr. in the Schroeder subdivision, and finally at the Compass Roofing location on Hwy. 34.  We will then bus children to those same locations after school. If you have questions regarding lunches or bussing, please contact the Cedar Hollow office at 385-6306.

Our first day of school is Thursday, August 11.  Students will enter classrooms at 7:55 am, and our actual school day begins at 8:00 am.  Our school day ends at 3:15 on all days other than Wednesday, when school ends at 2:00 pm. We will be serving lunch on our first day of school.

Mrs. Neeman has been busy over the summer uploading and updating Power School information. It is vital that your contact information is up-to-date with your most current phone numbers, addresses and email information. We will use this information to contact you in case of emergencies, events, inclement weather and many other important details available through PowerSchool. Please contact the office when any changes or additions need to be made during the year.  If you have questions please contact Mrs. Neeman.

Speaking of Mrs. Neeman, we are excited to share our new staff with you!  Mrs. Leslie Neeman is our new school secretary.  Mrs. Emily Rush is our new teacher in 1st grade, with Mrs. Stutzman moving to 2nd grade.  Miss Desma Hamilton is our new music teacher, and Mrs. Stacie Loeffelholz is our new careers teacher, which is one of our middle school trimester courses.  Mrs. Loeffelholz will be at Cedar Hollow for the first third of the year, and then rotating to the other middle schools while our art teacher and tech teacher rotate into Cedar Hollow later in the year.  Mrs. Casie Olsen is our new school psychologist.  We are also adding three new para educators: Mrs. Becky Pena, Mrs. Jessica Verba, and Mrs. Brenna Journey.  We welcome these new educators to the Cedar Hollow family and are lucky to have them in our school!

School pictures will take place Thursday, August 25.  We will take the pictures as early in the school day as we can.

Another important date is our Open House, which will be a chance for all students to come and meet their teachers, see their rooms, and bring school supplies to keep in their cubbies or lockers.  Our Open House is Wednesday, August 10, from 6:30 – 7:30.  We will have a meeting for all new middle school students to discuss how middle school “works” and ways to help your child have the best chance at a successful school year.  This will take place at 7:30 and will be done by 8:00.  We want all students to get home and get plenty of sleep as the next day is the first day of school!

The last date we want to make you aware of this Friday, August 5.  Later in the afternoon of this day, you will be able to login and access Powerschool.  When logging in, you will have access to  homeroom teachers and class schedules for your student(s).

Middle School Tech Fees-  As noted in our device user agreement during the registration process, each year students in grades 6-8 are required to pay a technology use fee. This $25 fee allows students to take the Chromebook home on the first day of school.  Payments can be made with cash/check in the office or credit card via e-Funds. It is important to remember that this fee does not include damage fees. Students will be charged a $25 incident fee for any damage or repairs needed on their device.  This is a per incident fee and is a flat $25 fee per incident. Some fees may be waived if you have qualified for Free & Reduced Lunch AND have completed the Sharing Information Form. We ask that these 6th-8th grade fees be paid by Friday, August 19th. After August 19th if the fee is not paid the student will not be allowed to take their chromebook home.

Middle School Sports – Please see the Cedar Hollow Website under Middle School Athletic Information. As noted, all athletes must have a current physical on record before they may practice. Practices for fall sports will begin during the week of August 15th. More specific details and schedules will be coming soon.

The best way to stay up to date with school news is by accessing the following links.  The district calendar is located on the Northwest website, and items specific to Cedar Hollow are on the Cedar Hollow calendar, which can also be accessed through the Northwest website.

Lastly, as we begin our school year it is important to review arrival and dismissal information.  We would prefer if students arrive near 7:45 am, definitely after 7:30 am.  Please during both arrival and dismissal, it is important that vehicles are MOVING FORWARD in your lane when appropriate, especially in the front lot.  In addition, please pull ahead as far as you can when dropping off as it can really cause a backup if you stop near the entrance gate.  We very much appreciate our parents and guardians and all you do for the success of your child and the school as a whole.  If you have any questions regarding your child’s education, please don’t hesitate to call me at (308)385-6306.  Here’s wishing all a great school year!

Sincerely,

Mr. Mazour

Principal
