Note from Mr. Retzlaff- Nov 2022

Parents & Guardians,

Fall continues to bless us with wonderful weather and the beautiful foliage on the trees. We continue to wish and pray for a little moisture to help us jump start next year. We continue to have a wonderful year at 1R. We have lots to celebrate.

On October 2nd we celebrated 50 wonderful years at 1R!  Thank you to everyone who came out to help us celebrate. We had a great turn out, great food, some fun activities but most of all some community time with current 1R families and alumni.  PTO members thank you for helping organize, set up and work the event. After 50 years, 1R continues to provide a small family feel even though it has grown over the years. We still provide a high quality education with a personal small school feel. Thank you to all who helped establish, build and continue to serve at 1R in educating our students from 1972-2022 and beyond!

You probably have already heard that we have a change in schedule this week. NO school Wednesday, Nov. 2nd. Congratulations on 22 consecutive years qualifying for the state tournament and good luck to our Lady Vikings at the state VB tournament. Thursday, Nov. 3rd will be a FULL day of school from 8:00-3:15. No School on Friday, Nov. 4th. Good luck to the Viking Football team in the State Playoffs as they take on Waverly. Thanksgiving break will begin on Wednesday. Nov. 23rd.

Next, Friday Nov. 11 from 12:30-1:00 we will host a small Veteran’s Day Program in the 1R gym. If you have a family member or child who would like to invite a Veteran from your family to attend they are welcome to. Our goal is to celebrate those who have served and/or died for our country and our freedoms. We hope our students also have an opportunity to learn, grow and understand the meaning of Veteran’s Day.

Report Cards went home last week with your child. If you did not receive a copy you may still access those report cards in the PowerSchool Parent Portal. If you have any questions feel free to contact the office.

Middle School winter sports season is kicking off soon. Girls Basketball is getting underway this week. Reminder – ALL girls home basketball games will be played at Cedar Hollow. This year our 7th and 8th grade girls are combined to create one team . Please monitor and check the schedules on the website and follow coaches’ reminders. We may run into schedule changes as we start up games. Wrestlers have been practicing and will have their first meets coming up soon. We wish our sports teams the best of luck this winter. The Boys Honor Choir Tour was this week and they did a great job. Thanks Mrs. Behrendt, Mr. Meyer and Ms. Hamilton for organizing this event. The Middle School Quiz Bowl was held in October. All the teams did a great job.

The second middle school trimester begins next week Nov. 7th. Mrs. Loeffelholz will join us at 1R. She is a new teacher in the district this year and brings a wealth of experience in business and careers.  Please welcome her when you see her around 1R. She will be teaching Careers to the middle school students. Students will have the opportunity to explore careers, jobs and opportunities for their futures. 8th grade will also have a trimester of Health. Thank you to Mrs. Amen for a great start in Art during the first trimester.

We celebrated many events, students and teams last week in our first quarter pep rally. We had a great 1st quarter and are proud of all the work and effort our students put in. Our 1R House system has been fun and a new wrinkle at 1R this year. The first quarter House winner was Sollevare-Team Yellow! Great job to Sollevare during the first quarter representing themselves through house activities, in the classroom and around the school. They demonstrated our “ROW” expectations along with leading by example. Congratulations Team Yellow!

PTO will be wrapping up a couple of holiday fundraisers. Wreaths/Greenery should be arriving around Thanksgiving. Poinsettia plants will be arriving in the early part of December. Please be looking for more information to come on those deliveries in the next few weeks. We had a great turnout at DQ Dining Night out and at the ScareCrow Patch. Upcoming event on Saturday Nov. 12th is at Small Town Famous. Watch for more details to come.

Winter Reminder – We will go outside as much as possible for recess. Please make sure children are dressing appropriately as the seasons change – coats, hats, mittens and gloves. If there is snow on the playground they must have snow pants and boots to play in it. Otherwise, they have to stay on the concrete. They need to bring a separate pair of boots for outside recess unless they are rubber or water resistant shoes.

We will utilize Power School as our mass communication delivery system this year for weather closings. Please check that your information is updated and current in Power School so you may receive important school and district information. Announcements will also be made on KOLN/KGIN 10/11 (Lincoln), KSNB Local 4, KHGI Channel 13 and KRGI Radio along with Northwest social media accounts.

On behalf of the staff and myself, we thank you for your continued support. If you have questions regarding your children’s education, please do not hesitate to contact the office at 385-6352.

Sincerely,

Mr. Retzlaff, Principal
