August 2024: Note from the Principal

August 2024: Note from the Principal

Parents/Guardians and Students,

It’s hard to believe, but summer is almost over.  I hope you all were able to spend some quality time with family and friends during the summer months.  It’s always great to have some time to relax and enjoy some downtime.  With that being said, I can’t wait for another school year to begin!  Nothing gets me more excited than thinking about busy hallways, sporting events, our school musical, concerts, and other activities!

The freshmen orientation day is August 14 and students will come until 12:50 that day.  They have the school all to themselves.  This is sort of a “meet and greet” day as well as a day in which freshmen will walk through their schedules while the hallways aren’t packed.  Student council members will be there to help students navigate through their schedule.  We will have them go through the lunch line as well so they know what that process looks like.  We will not be serving lunch, but will provide them with a snack.  This is a day they won’t want to miss out on.

Please make sure sports physicals are turned in and your Family ID information is filled out before sports seasons start.  Your student will not be able to participate in sports until this information is turned in.  Please contact Mr Fritsche (mfritsche@ginorthwest.org) or Mrs Beckmann (abeckmann@ginorthwest.org)  in the activities office if you have any questions.  You may call the school or email either of them.

There are a few important sites we want you to know well and check often.

  1. Parent portal for PowerSchool allows you to check grades and attendance.
  2. The school website (www.ginorthwest.org) provides important information on a regular basis.
  3. Northwest App for your phone!  This is the one stop shop for all your sports, merchandise, Striv, and more.  Simply search Northwest Vikings in your app store

The student supply list is on our school website.  Please go to www.ginorthwest.org to find that list.  If you have any questions, feel free to call the school.  We also need to know if your student will be using a school issued chromebook or bringing their own device to school.  Please fill out this quick google form: Device Form

Last but not least, we have some important dates for you:

The official first day of school for everyone is August 15.  This is a full day of school (8:10 – 3:36).  It’s always a fun first day that includes a back to school pep rally.  This is a great day to have your students bring their school supplies.

  • August 3 is the Booster Club Barn Bash!  This event starts at 5 PM at the Prairie Creek Barn.  Please click on the link to buy tickets, which also signs you up to be a member of the Booster Club!  Booster Club Barn Bash
  • August 6 from 5 PM – 6 PM  is Fees night.  All parents in the district are encouraged to come and take care of student fees on this night (lunch, chromebook, etc).  Please make sure you attend.
  • August 15 – 18 is the school musical “Mamma Mia”!  Get your tickets here: Musical Tickets
  • August 19 is the back to school parent meeting at 6 PM in the auditorium.  All parents are encouraged to attend. We will cover important information and answer any questions you may have.
  • August 21 is picture day at Northwest High School.

We look forward to another great year at Northwest High School.  We are excited to build great relationships with all families.  It’s our hope that through working as a team, your student will see great gains in all aspects of their life.

It’s a great time to be a Viking!
