Note from the Principal- May 2025
Dear Parents and Guardians,
It seems unreal to be writing the last Newsletter of the 2024-25 school year. In three weeks we will be closing out another AWESOME year at 1R! Here are a few reminders as we close out the year.Â
Mrs. Liberty will be hosting the K-5 vocal music concert this Monday, May 5th at 6:30pm in the Northwest Auditorium. Students may arrive at 6:15pm. Our 5-8 band students did a great job at their performance on Tuesday night. Thank you Mr. Meyer. Â
2025-26 Sports Physicals -Monday, May 12th from 5-6:30PM. Incoming 8th through 12th grade athletes only may go to Northwest high school for their sports physical. There is only a $25 cost for these physicals. You may print a copy of the form from the Northwest district website.
Northwest Summer Camp information and signup can be found on the district website or this link. Northwest Summer CampsÂ
All incoming 7th graders for the 2025-26 school year need to have a doctor’s physical completed with booster shots before August 2025. You may bring a copy or have your doctor fax a copy to the office at 308-385-6358. Â
Friday, May 16, will be the Northwest K-6 District-Wide Field Day. School will be dismissed at 12:00pm. Notes went home yesterday with information on lunch and transportation. Please complete and return this form so we may make plans. 7th & 8th grade will be dismissed to go home at 12p.m. We do need to know if they are having a cold lunch. Events will be completed around 2:30pm, so please make plans to pick up your child at Northwest High School. There is NO make up date if we have inclement weather. We will try to have a decision made by 10:00 AM if we have to cancel. If we would have to cancel it we would have a regular day of school. Following Field Day PTO is hosting an event at Big Red Treats from 2-6 pm. Stop by and get a treat after a hot afternoon of events.Â
PTO news – This Friday, May 2nd is the PTO family night at Pete’s Safari Zoo from 4:00-7:00. The cost is $6.00 per person. Flower Delivery and pick up will be Thursday, May 8th from 2:30-3:45 PM in the east parking lot. If the weather is inclement, pick up will be in the gym. Please stop out a little early for pick up. Thank you to all who purchased and helped with this fundraiser – it was another great success. Culver’s Dining Night out will be from 4-9pm on Tuesday, May 6th. Next year’s PTO officers will be President – Angela Rodenbaugh; VP – Nicole Dramse, Secretary- Stacia Shanneyfelt, Treasurer- Lisa Allan. Â
As we conclude the school year a reminder that all technology damages, lunch fees, and yearbook orders must be paid. Please check with Mrs. Bachle if you have questions. Library books need to be returned if they are missing. If a book is not returned you will be charged for replacing the book. Mrs. Cadwalader can help if you have any questions. Chromebooks and power cords will be checked for damages and missing fees will be assessed. Students will not be given Chromebooks next year until all damages or fees are paid in full. If there is damage, Mr. Gibson will let us know the damage costs. If the power cord is missing it will be $25 to replace it. Â
Thursday, May 22, is our last day of school. 8th grade recognition is that morning beginning at 8-8:45am. 8th grade invitations and information went home last week with your child. 8th grade will be dismissed immediately following the recognition program. Congratulations to our 8th grade class!Â
All other students will be dismissed at 12:00 noon on May 22nd.  Â
I would like to say one last thank you to everyone for another successful year at 1R. Thank you again for supporting and partnering with us in your child’s educational journey this year. There is no greater place to work than at 1R and the Northwest school district. Please continue to check out the 1R calendar, website, and Facebook for the latest happenings. Have a Great Summer!!Â
Sincerely,
Mr. Retzlaff, Principal
