Parents/Guardians,
As we celebrate Thanksgiving, I want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the entire 1R School community. To our students, thank you for your enthusiasm, hard work, and kindness—you are the reason our school shines. To our dedicated staff, your commitment, care, and passion make 1R a place where every learner can grow and thrive. And to our families, your support, partnership, and involvement strengthen our school in countless ways. I am truly thankful for each of you and for the sense of unity that makes 1R such a special place. Wishing you all a joyful, restful, and blessed Holiday season. Here are a few reminders as we head into the busy December month.
Tuesday, December 9th the 5th through 8th grade District-wide band concert will be held in the Northwest auditorium. The K-8 winter music concert will be held on Thursday, December 18th in the Northwest auditorium. These concerts begin at 6:30pm. Staff supervision will begin at 6:15. We do ask that you please stay seated for the entire concert. Mrs. Liberty, Mrs. Houdek and Mr. Meyer along with the students have put in a great deal of time and effort to put on a great program for you.
K-8 students will be completing a variety of winter assessments over the next few weeks. K-1 will complete their middle of year DIBELS and Math MAP benchmarks. 2nd grade will complete winter MAPS & DIBELS assessments. 3rd-8th will be taking the MAPS assessments in Math & Reading. Teachers are discussing student and class goals. Please have your children get a good night sleep, eat a healthy breakfast and give them some positive reinforcement. We encourage you to discuss and share the importance of giving their best effort. Teachers also use this information to guide their next steps of instruction heading into the second semester.Â
There will be a PTO Runza Dining Night out on Tuesday, December 2nd from 5-8p.m. For those of you who purchased Poinsettias flower delivery and pick up will be on Monday, Dec. 8th after 11:00a.m. The flowers will be located inside the front door of the school next to the office. No PTO meeting in December. Next meeting will be Monday, January 5th at 6:00pm.Â
We utilize Bright Arrow as our mass communication delivery system. Please ensure your information is up-to-date in PowerSchool so you receive important school and district information. If you have questions, please contact the office for assistance. School closings will also be announced on KOLN/KGIN (Lincoln) and KLKN-TV (Lincoln) and on social media. Students will continue to go outside when temperatures feel like 20 degrees or higher. They must have coats, mittens, snow pants, and boots to play in the snow. Otherwise they are restricted to the concrete area.Â
Winter Break will begin on Friday, December 19th. Students will return on Tuesday, January 6th, 2026.Â
Mrs. O’Boyle Nurses Tips: We are in the flu and cold season. Here are some simple tips to try and keep everyone healthy over the holiday season. Nurse Tips If your child has a temperature over 100 they need to stay home.Â
Winter Middle School sports are off and running. Girls basketball teams are having a great season and improving each week. Our wrestlers are finding a lot of success on the mats. Boys Basketball and Girls Wrestling will begin immediately after break with the first practice on Thursday, January 8th.
