AUGUST NEWS FROM MR. SMITH

AUGUST NEWS FROM MR. SMITH

We have officially started school and are off to a great start!  All of the fall sports teams are practicing and our organizations have begun having meetings.  On behalf of our administrative team and teachers, welcome back! We are excited to have your students in the building.

We have implemented a new pass software in the school called e-hall pass.  Students utilize this system whenever they need to leave the classroom.  They simply fill out an online pass, the teacher accepts it and when they come back, they end the pass.  If they are going to see another teacher, the teacher they are traveling to clicks “arrived” when they get there and when they go back, the original teacher ends the pass.  This is another way to help keep our students and school safe.

All of our students that are driving to school should have a yellow car tag hanging from their mirror or laying on their dash.  We want to make sure our parking lot is safe and that every vehicle on campus belongs to a student, a staff member, or a known visitor.  Also, we occasionally have fender benders.  Having car tags enables us to quickly contact the rightful owners.  Finally, we have vehicles that need to be moved on occasion and need to know who’s vehicle it is.  Please make sure your student has a tag.  If  they use multiple vehicles, they can move the tag to the other vehicle.  Here is the link to fill out the form: vehicle registration form.

Please get used to logging into PowerSchool to check your student’s grades and to read the daily bulletin.  There is important information for parents on the daily bulletin each week.  If you are having trouble logging in to PowerSchool, contact the school and we would be happy to help.

Mr Moser, our freshman academy principal, does a great job of communicating with parents on a regular basis.  Please click on the link to read his August newsletter: Freshman newsletter.

Just a reminder that the musical “Mean Girls” starts today!  This will be an excellent show that you will not want to miss.  Tickets are still available at the following link:  Mean Girls

Our counselors have a lot of information for you as we begin the year.  Please take a look at this link to stay caught up on possible college visits, ACT dates, as well as an important senior parent meeting coming up.  Click on this link for details: Counselors Corner.

Finally, I want to thank everyone that was able to attend the parent meeting on August 10.  If you were unable to attend you can see the agenda here: Parent Meeting.  I hope your family is doing well.  As always, if you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact me!

It’s a great day to be a Viking!

PJ Smith, NWHS Principal
