 July 7, 2021

Dear Parents and Guardians;

There is no doubt the COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted students’ experiences this past school year.

As we begin to plan for next school year and the use of the Federal ESSER III funds, please help our team by taking this quick survey to share your expectations, hopes, and concerns.

Your feedback will inform our efforts to best support all students and investments of the Federal ESSER III funds.

Please complete the survey by Friday, July 16, 2021.

Thank you for being a part of our community.

Sincerely,

Jeffrey E. Edwards, Ed.D

Superintendent

The American Rescue Plan Act was signed into law on March 11, 2021. Included in the bill is nearly $122 billion in awards to state education agencies through the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund (ESSER) designated to support preK-12 schools to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Nebraska Department of Education (NDE) will administer this fund for local education agencies (a.k.a. districts) in the state of Nebraska.

Nebraska’s award, totaling $545,908,619, is based on the proportionate share of Title I-A funds received in FY21 (SY20-21):

  • 90% of Nebraska’s award ($491 million) must be sub-granted to LEAs. Funds are allocated based on each LEA’s proportionate share of Title I-A funds received in FY21 (SY20-21).

  • 9.5% of the total award ($54.6  million) may be reserved for NDE state-level activities to support K-12 recovery efforts.

  • No more than 0.5% of the total award ($2.7 million) may be reserved by NDE for administrative costs.

The following is a more detailed breakdown of Nebraska’s American Rescue Plan Act award:

Total Award

$545,908,619

LEA (90%)

$491,317,757

NDE Administrative Fund (.05%)

Our district is receiving $980,435 in American Rescue Plan Funds. More information will be coming soon, and our district will seek additional feedback from stakeholders over the summer through July 20, 2021.
