District Enrollment

District Resident Students

Parents of students who reside within the boundaries of Northwest School District must complete an on-line enrollment portal in April/May. The link will be available on the Northwest website. Parents will receive a text alert letting them know when the portal is open and ready to receive enrollments. Parents should be prepared to either provide or upload the following documents the first time they are enrolling a student.

  • Proof of in-district residency (current lease agreement, current mortgage statement, warranty deed, bill of sale, settlement statement from closing, or signed contract with closing date)
  • Birth certificate
  • Most recent immunization record

Kindergarten Enrollment for District Residents

A child may enter kindergarten if five years old before August 1 of the year of enrollment.  All kindergarten programs are full day.  Please contact the following to the District Office (308-385-6398) at your earliest convenience to ensure that we have your student’s name on the list of prospective kindergartners for the 2024-2025 school year. We will contact you regarding Intro to Kindergarten Day (generally held mid-April) and provide you with additional information. You will be asked to complete an on-line enrollment portal in May. The link will be available on the Northwest website. Parents will receive a text alert letting them know when the portal is open and ready to receive enrollments. Parents should be prepared to either provide or upload the following documents when they are enrolling a student.

    • Birth certificate
    • Current immunization records
    • Proof of in-district residency if you do not own the property

Non-Resident Students

Option enrollment applications for the 2024-2025 school year will be accepted starting September 1, 2023. *Applications submitted prior to September 1 will be returned to sender.

Students who do not reside within the boundaries of the Northwest School District are welcome to apply to attend Northwest schools as a non-resident student on a space-available basis in accordance with Nebraska law. Northwest does not provide student transportation to and from school for non-resident students. Download an option enrollment application for the 2024-2025 school year. Submit the completed application to Chelsie Van Buskirk at the District Office or email the application to cvanbuskirk@ginorthwest.org. An enrollment packet, birth certificate, and immunization records will be required from new students upon acceptance into the Northwest School District.

Age Requirements for Enrollment

A child may enter kindergarten if five years before August 1 of the year of enrollment. All kindergarten programs are full day. Students enrolling in first grade may enter if they are six years old on or before October 1 of the year of enrollment. A student who is at least five years old on or before October 1 of the year of enrollment shall be permitted to enroll in first grade if the student attended at least 120 days of kindergarten in another state. Proof of birth date is required.

Re-Admittance after Leaving School District

Parents/guardians who live in the Northwest School District and choose to enroll their students in another school district (including online schools), or who choose to home-school their students, may not enroll in the Northwest School District during the same school year after the official pupil enrollment count date (currently October 1). Parents/guardians may seek admission to the schools of Northwest School District for the following school year.

Transportation

Transportation might be available to K-8 students who live within designated transportation areas. Adequate service, safety and efficient operation shall be the goals in the planning of school bus schedules, routes and stops. Learn more about Northwest District Transportation.
