SEPTEMBER NEWS FROM MR. SMITH

SEPTEMBER NEWS FROM MR. SMITH

It’s hard to believe we are a month into the school year already!  Time flies when you are having fun.  During the fall months, Wednesday and Sunday are about the only days in which we don’t have an activity of some sort going on.  Come watch our students in action if you have time.  We also had numerous students involved in the state fair, whether it be through FFA, art, band, show choir, FCCLA, or volleyball to name a few.  Our kids continue to amaze me with their talent.

Parent / teacher conferences are coming up.  The high school will run conferences on Wednesday, September 20 and Thursday, September 21 from 3:30 – 8:00 PM each day.  Students will have a 12:39 dismissal each day with no lunch being served.  There will be no school on Friday, September 22.  For planning purposes we have a few coaches (football and volleyball) gone on  September 21, just so you are aware.  Please have the PowerSchool app downloaded to your phone as you will need that to access your student’s schedule.  Conferences will be held in the classrooms once again this year.  We look forward to seeing you all.

Our Parent Advisory Board will meet for the first time on September 20.  If you have any items you would like me to discuss with them, please let me know!  We are always looking for ways to improve as a school and this board serves a critical role in helping us do so.

Senior parents, on Tuesday, September 12 during our advisement period, there is an important meeting in the auditorium.  They will be getting fitted for their cap and gown.  Please make sure your student is there.  They will then turn their orders in during lunch on the following Tuesday, September 19th.

We have two tremendous guidance counselors who work extremely hard to help our kids succeed in all aspects of life.  I want to encourage everyone to continue to check our counselor page, which can be found on our school website under the parent tab.  There is a ton of good information on there, including scholarship opportunities.  Please click on this link for more important information for the month of September from the counselors: Counselor’s Corner.

I want to encourage you all to stay connected with all that is going on at Northwest.  We have an app you can download that will give you team schedules, rosters, Striv link, apparel information, and much more.  Simply search for Northwest on your app store.  Please have the PowerSchool app downloaded so you can check your student’s grade consistently.  If you have questions about a grade or anything else, don’t hesitate to email the teacher.  There is no better team than a parent / teacher team when it comes to the success of a student.  Finally, continue to check our website for news.  There are many links on the site for you to get up to date information on.

As always, it’s a great day to be a Viking!

PJ Smith, Principal
