Note from the Principal- Nov. 23

Parents & Guardians,

The first quarter flew by and we are almost three weeks into the second quarter. We celebrated  by recognizing our Ultimate ROW reward winners and the 1st quarter House Cup Champion. The  Light Green, Integritas House was the 1st quarter cup winner.. Congratulations and keep ROWING!

Report Cards went home last week with your child. If you did not receive a copy you may still access those report cards in the PowerSchool Parent Portal. If you have any questions feel free to contact the office.

Our Kindergarten through 5th grade Christmas Concert will be held on Thursday, December 7th at Northwest High School. The concert will start at 6:30 p.m. with Mrs. Liberty leading the show. On Monday, December 11th we will hold our 5th through 8th grade District-wide BAND concert. Again, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at Northwest High School with Mr. Meyer directing.

Unfortunately, due to the lack of  having a full time  6th – 8th grade music teacher during the first semester, there will not be a Middle School (6-8) Winter concert this year. Ms. Mychaela Fegter has graciously joined us at 1R & St. Libory during the second quarter to help fill in. Thank you Ms. Fegter for helping out and taking on this role.

Middle School winter sports season is kicking off soon. Girls basketball is getting underway this week. Reminder – ALL girls home basketball games are played at Cedar Hollow. Please monitor and check the schedules on the google calendar and follow coaches’ reminders. We may run into schedule changes as we start up games. Wrestlers have been practicing and have their first meet coming up soon. We wish our sports teams the best of luck this winter.

The second middle school trimester begins next week Nov. 6th. with Mrs. Loeffelholz. The second trimester is Careers. Students will explore careers, jobs and opportunities they have interest in. 8th grade will also have a trimester of Health. Thank you,  Mrs. Amen for a great start to the year in Art.

PTO will be wrapping up a couple of holiday fundraisers. Wreaths/Greenery should be arriving around Thanksgiving. Poinsettia plants will be arriving in the early part of December. Please be looking for more information to come on those deliveries in the next few weeks. We had a great turnout at Culver’s dining night out and Helgoth’s Pumpkin Patch. The next PTO Dining night out is Tuesday, November 7th 5-9pm at Freddy’s. The next time you are in the 1R gym check out the new crash mats PTO purchased for the gym. They look awesome! Thank you PTO!! Next meeting is Monday, Nov. 6th at 6:00pm. There is no meeting in December.

Family Tech Tip from Mrs. Callihan: Digital wellness is about ensuring that your technology helps your overall well-being. Often times, picking up your phone is a result of boredom. Ideally, paying attention to and trying to avoid that habit is ideal. You may consider games or apps that challenge you or support learning.

Winter Reminder – We will go outside as much as possible for recess. Please make sure children are dressing appropriately as the seasons change – coats, hats, mittens and gloves. If there is snow on the playground they must have snow pants and boots to play in it. Otherwise, they have to stay on the concrete. They need to bring a separate pair of boots for outside recess unless they are rubber or water resistant shoes. Please put initials or names on student items as we always accumulate lost and found pile. The cost of items adds up and this would help us get items back to the rightful owners.

We will utilize Power School as our mass communication delivery system this year for weather closings. Please check that your information is updated and current in Power School so you may receive important school and district information. Announcements will also be made on KOLN/KGIN 10/11 (Lincoln), KSNB Local 4, KHGI Channel 13 and KRGI Radio along with Northwest social media accounts.

We hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving! NO School over Thanksgiving break on November 22, 23, & 24.

On behalf of the staff and myself, we thank you for your continued support. If you have questions regarding your children’s education, please do not hesitate to contact the office at 385-6352.

Sincerely,

Mr. Retzlaff, Principal
