Note from the Principal- March 2024
Parents and Guardians,
Crazy, the third quarter is about to wrap up! March will fly by and school will be out before we know it. Thank you for your continued support each and every day at 1R!
Reminders: No School next Wednesday, March 6th-8th for students. Enjoy Spring Break! Â
It was great to see so many parents at Parent Teacher Conferences last month. We had a 92% turnout for our K-8 conferences. Please remember teachers are always available via email or phone call if you have questions. Middle school parents can always log into PowerSchool and check grades. If you click on the percent grade you can dig deeper and see specific grades, missing grades, late work and teacher comments. 3rd Quarter report cards will be sent home and uploaded into PowerSchool on Monday, March 18th.Â
February Celebrations – Mr. Meyer and Mr. Pfanstiel hosted a middle school honor band day and they put on an awesome performance. Congratulations to Judah Crick for placing 3rd in the written portion and qualifying for the oral round at the Hall County Spelling Bee – 8th grade division. The Middle School Quiz Bowl team of Shane Cornelius, Grace Tolen, Taya Olesen, Brooklyn Joseph, Cara Thielen and Alivia Coltrin were the District Champions. The 8th grade boys basketball team will compete for the Championship in the Westridge tournament. We had three girls compete in the first ever Northwest Middle School Wrestling program.  Â
Mrs. Liberty will be hosting the K-5 Spring concert on Monday, March 11th, at 6:30p.m @ Northwest auditorium. At this time there will not be a 6-8 middle school spring concert. Administration and teachers are putting together an alternative opportunity for our 6-8 students district wide. We will share more details in the near future. Â
We will offer middle school soccer again this year. We will continue to partner with GICC for 7th & 8th grade teams. Practices will begin on Monday, March 18th and will be held at GICC. Please contact Coach Nichol (Boys) DNICOL@ginorthwest.org and Coach Yost (Girls) lyost@ginorthwest.org. Athletes will be transported to GICC from their respective schools. Parents will be expected to pick up their child at GICC at 5:15. Athletes will have Wednesday practices but those will be at Northwest High School.
There will be a middle school track parent meeting on Monday, March 4tth at 5:30 pm in the Northwest High School gym. Track practice will begin on March 18th. Please contact Coach Wemhoff if you have questions at kwemhoff@ginorthwest.org
