Guidelines for a Sick Child

A child should stay home if there is:

*Fever of 100.0 or higher

*Vomiting

*Diarrhea

*Frequent cough

*Persistent pain – stomach, ear, throat, head, etc.

*Widespread rash or skin infection

*Pinkeye or conjunctivitis

*Flu

*If he/she’s too sick to be comfortable at school or participate in educational activities

*If he/she might spread a contagious disease to other children

***Children with a fever should stay home until there is no fever for 24 hours, without taking Tylenol, Ibuprofen, etc.  

***A child with the flu should be symptom-free for 24 hours and be able to hold down food and fluids before returning to school.
